Located in Chamartin district of Madrid, Santiago Bernabeu is the Mecca for anyone who is associated with or event just a fan of football. The stadium is named after former Real Madrid forward, Santiago Bernabéu de Yeste, who, along with Rafael Salgado, purchased a land with the credit granted by Banco Mercantil e Industrial bank, and hired architects Manuel Muñoz Monasterio and Luis Alemany Soler to begin the construction of the stadium in 1944. The stadium was inaugurated with the name Nuevo Estadio Chamartín in 1947,  with a match between Real Madrid and Os Belenenses which resulted in a 3-1 win for Real. Sabino Barinaga became the first player to score in this stadium.
